Kroger and Meijer
We had a great response to the Kroger and Meijer fundraisers. Since the Freshman Parent
meeting on Aug 15, we have sold 65 Kroger cards. Thank you to everyone who has purchased
one. We just received a check from Kroger. There was over $11,000 loaded onto Kroger
cards in the last 30 days, added to the $3,000 from the previous month, the band earned
over $700 for the general fund. This is absolutely wonderful!! We have also had a number
of families pick up Meijer applications, again thank you! You can join with either program
at anytime. The Kroger paper certificates will be discontinued by the Kroger company this
month. We currently still have some of these, they can be purchased for $25 each. Kroger
cards and certificates and Meijer applications are available at the Deutschman home, 911 N
Wintergarden Rd on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
These hours will continue through September. Starting in October, we will only be open
on the first and third Saturdays of the month at the same time. If you need to get a
card in between times, please contact Anne Deutschman at 419-354-3014 or
jakgs@dacor.net to make other arrangements. You can
also complete a Meijer application at their website,
www.meijer.com/rewards. The band code is 951335.
Remember to keep loading your Kroger card before shopping and have your Meijer card swiped
before finalizing your purchase. We are off to a great start on the year.
Uniforms
Thank you to everyone who has helped with uniforms so far this year. We've had a number
of parents help with either fitting students, or making alterations to the uniforms. The
band looked great at the Napoleon game. We could not have had them ready for the game
without your help. It is greatly appreciated. Also, today we started waterproofing the
raincoats. This process was made easier because the students moved the raincoats downstairs
in a very short period time. Several parents and students helped with this smelly job
Saturday morning and I can't thank you enough.

Pancakes Were Flying
Thank You !!! to all of our volunteers that helped during the Pancake Breakfast Fund Raiser.
We had plenty of students and parents for this event, and although some of us found the hours
to be a little early, it was very successful. A special thank you goes to the BGHS Athletic
Department and the BGSU Falcon Marching band for coming and supporting us as well.
- David & Lisa Codding
Congrats!!!
We have an all-time record number of BGHS band students who have been selected for the OMEA
All-State Band!! John Gruber, Anne Lake and Edward Ricard will be performing in Cleveland,
OH in January 2006 as a part of the OMEA State Conference. They were selected on the basis
of taped auditions last spring. John and Anne will be attending for the first time, while
Ed is a three-time participant! More details will follow later this winter. Congrats from
all of us!
Band Store
The Band Boosters and the student band treasurer, Kirsta Nagy, are happy to be able to
provide this convenience as a service for our students. However, be sure to pay your bills
promptly; grade cards are withheld each grading period for over-due bills.
Band Shoes
Hopefully, all new students have acquired their "Band Shoes" from Rettig's, or recycled
pairs from us. Be sure to label your shoes - with permanent ink - and take them home to
clean after every use.
Forms & Fees
Many thanks to all the parents who responded quickly with forms to Mrs. Smith. Please
remember to remit the $50.00 uniform maintenance fee, c/o BGHS Band Boosters. Only one
fee per family. This covers marching and concert season attire.
Private Lessons
Students are always encouraged to pursue private lessons, with area professionals. A
list will soon be posted in the music room for reference.
Help is Still Needed for the Football Season
The Band Boosters need your help this season with the concession stand/water/seatcovers
(when the Bobcats are playing at home) and with chaperoning the students when the games
are away. This becomes a big undertaking when just a few parents help each week.
Considering that the band membership is around 190 members strong, if each family helped
out at least once, the tasks to get the students cared for each week and the raising funds
to keep the band operational would be minimal for those helping. How about donating your
time at one football game to help out our Bobcat Marching Band? If you have questions on
what any of these responsibilities entails or to volunteer, please contact Gary or Joan
Manning at 419-354-1695. Your help is greatly appreciated.
