Moor News
The October issue of the "Moor News" newsletter is now available on the bands
web site (home.dacor.net/bghsband/MoorNews).
OMEA Regional Orchestra
As marching season winds down, many other musical opportunities present
themselves for our band students. The OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association)
Regional Orchestra is an annual fall concert, presented by students from
throughout NW Ohio.
This is a "by audition" event involving a commitment of time and resources
from students and their parents. Students who are interested should see Mr.
Headley for audition information. The deadline for the application is
October 8, 2004.
Band Auditions
All band students in grades 10-12 will be auditioning for band placement (Symphonic or Concert) and part assignments within those bands this month. Students will play individually for the band directors, in times of the student's choice, as per the following calendar. This will also serve as the basis for the "musical growth" portion of the 1st quarter grade. All Freshmen will audition for part assignments within Freshmen band in the second quarter.
Audition calendar for Upperclassmen:
- Monday, October 11 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM, FLUTES
- Tuesday, October 12 5-7 PM, SAXOPHONES
- Wednesday, October 13 3-6 PM --OR--
- Thursday, October 14 6-9 PM, CLARINETS
- Tuesday, October 19 4:30-6:30 PM, TUBAS / EUPHONIUMS
- Wednesday, October 20 6-8 PM --OR--
- Thursday, October 21 3-5 PM, PERCUSSION
- Monday, October 25 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM, TRUMPETS
- Tuesday, October 26 6-7 PM, HORNS
- Wednesday, October 27 4-7 PM, TROMBONES
- Thursday, October 28 3-6 PM, DOUBLE REEDS / BASS CLARINETS
Students will have 1-2 weeks to prepare their selections; they are to have
their instruments in good repair, plenty of reeds, and be able to show their
best work! Good luck!
Band Store Debts
Time to get band store debts paid up! The Band Boosters supply and support
the "Band Store" so that the students have easy access to the specific brands
and types of accessories that the band directors want them to use. However,
the students are expected to re-pay the band store/boosters in a timely fashion.
The list is far too long to include here; it is usually posted in obvious places
in the band room - included right on the doorway of the store!
First quarter grades will be held, the same policy the school maintains for
library fees. (In this case, your student already has used a product needed
for class, much like school supplies or workbooks.)
Cash or checks are welcome; please remit to: BGHS BAND BOOSTERS.
Did you volunteer to chaperone or work in the concession stand?
Thanks to all of you parents who have filled out the volunteer forms and
have offered your services as concession stand workers or as chaperones. We
appreciate your willingness to serve. Due to the sheer volume of students in
the band and the willingness of parents to help, it is impossible to have every
parent work every time they have volunteered. If you haven't been contacted by
one of the Mannings to confirm the time you volunteered, you don't need to
"report for duty" on that day. The purpose of the cards is to create a data
base which allows us to know which dates certain people are available and we
draw from that information to arrange volunteers. If you have a specific day
that you'd like to be sure to be assigned to help, please contact Joan or Gary
Manning well in advance of that date at 354-1695.
Again thank you for your willingness to serve the band. The parents are an
integral part of the band's success.
