Concert Refreshments
The band will be serving pies, cakes, cookies, coffee and water in the cafeteria
during the holiday concerts on December 8. Serving will begin at 1:00pm and end
at 5:00pm. If you would like to donate pies, cakes or cookies please contact
Sandy Stoots at 419-686-7111 or Diane Wensink at 419-669-2538.
Volunteers are also needed to help serve. Let us know if you can give an hour or
so of your time. Thanks for your support of the Bobcat Bands.
Little Caesar Pizza Kits
As you get this newsletter all order forms for the Little Caesar Pizza Kits
should have been turned in to the band room (they were due on Monday, December 2, 2002).
Volunteers are now needed to help with the pick-up and delivery scheduled to start
at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 in the band room. If you would
like to volunteer your time or have any questions, contact Diane Wensink at 419-669-2538.
Thanks
Thank you to ALL the parents that donated food and time towards the Symphonic Band
Retreat weekend. Feeding ninety students/teachers four meals and unending snacks
was accomplished by your support. The evening meal at the Gardner/Cooms home was
a welcome respite for a "home cooked" meal. It was an eventful weekend for the
musicians, and I thank you for your continued work for the band.

Cleveland OMEA Trip
The Symphonic Band has been invited to perform at the OMEA Conference in Cleveland,
Ohio on Friday, January 24, 2003. This is a great opportunity for the band
and puts our whole program in the spot light. Planning and preparations are already
underway, but there are still many “loose-ends” yet to be taken care of. More
information on this trip will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
It would be helpful to have a large audience in attendance, so please mark your
calendars and be there to show your support.
Benefit Concert
A Benefit Concert has been planned for Saturday, January 11, 2003 to give the
Symphonic Band a chance to perform their program in public prior to the OMEA
Conference in Cleveland. As of this newsletter the concert is planned to be held
at Kobacker Hall in the BGSU Moore Musical Arts Center. Seating will be limited
and advance ticket sales are currently available from any member of the Symphonic Band.
Congratulations
We would like wish our Student Teachers "Congrats" on their impending graduations.
As of this time, Heather Graves is slated to be Mrs. Metzger's sub for elementary
band and general music while Jennifer is on maternity leave, and Brad Hruska will
take over her pep band duties.
Kroger and Meijer Gift Certificates
For those of you who shop at either Kroger or Meijer on a regular basis, why not do it
with a gift certificate? This helps out the band and doesn’t cost you anything extra.
Here’s how it works: You purchase one or more gift certificates for $25 each, and use
them at any Kroger or Meijer store just like regular money. You’re not out anything and
the band earns 5% off of each certificate sold. Everybody wins.
Certificates are available at the Deutschman residence, 911 N. Wintergarden Rd, at the
following schedule for the Holidays:
Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm
Saturdays, 10:00-11:00 am
Please note that Certificates will not be available on Christmas Day or
New Years Day. For you hardy shoppers, however, we have added two special
days to take their place:
Thursday, Dec 26, 6:30-7:30 pm
Thursday, Jan 2, 6:30-7:30 pm
This is an easy fundraiser. All it takes is a little advance planning to buy
certificates before you shop. So start now and get a supply on hand.
New Policies for Band Store
In an effort to reduce the amount of money owed to the band store and encourage a timely
settlement of student accounts, a new set of rules has been approved by the Band Executive
Board concerning band store charges.
As of September 25, 2002 the following rules have been instituted:
- Students will now have two weeks to pay debts, beginning from the date they charged.
(This includes weekends). After this two-week period, students will not be able to charge
items at the store until full payment is made. Purchases can still be made with cash or
check.
- Students owing more than fifteen dollars ($15) to the band store will lose their ability
to purchase items as well.
- Exceptions will always be made for reeds.
- Exceptions for gloves, lyres, flip-folders, etc., will be made for performances only.
- Students with debts carried over from the previous school year will not be able to use
the store until the debts are settled.
These rules will be reviewed and revised as necessary by the Band Executive Board to insure
the smooth and continued operation of the band store.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic band members should have turned in their $100 for the Cleveland trip. If
you have not done so already so, please turn in your money ASAP. Fundraising to offset
your costs will continue until January 13, 2003.
Band Web Site
The band web site (home.dacor.net/bghsband) is being updated with new photos for the
2002-2003 school year. Several new photo sets have been added, so if you haven’t been
to the web site lately, check it out. If you have photos to share, you may give them
to any board member or email them to
bghsband@dacor.net.
Newsletter by Email ?
To help reduce postage and paper costs, we have started to send this newsletter via
email. Newsletters are also being posted on the web site. If you would like to receive
your newsletter via email, let us know by sending an email message to that effect
to bghsband@dacor.net.
