Welcome Back
Welcome to all Band Parents !!
Another year of marching season has begun, and we are so proud of the band. Preview night
was a success, even though it was held inside, the sound was wonderful. The Band Board is
busy with many projects for our children.
Freshmen parents--please consider volunteering to ride the band bus to one away game. The
band bus is an experience in itself, and you should know the fun that happens. You will not
have to ride your child's bus, so as to embarrass you or your child. We have chaperoned many
games, and it is always a fun time. Call the Blackford's to volunteer your time.
Upperclass parents--thank you for your support, we have many projects to volunteer for,
please volunteer a few hours of your time.
As a parent of a BGHS Band member for the eighth straight year, we are so proud of the
accomplishments our Band has made. The friendships for our daughter, and the friends we
have made through the band will be livelong. Glad you are a part of our band family.

OU Band Day
The Bowling Green Bobcats and the Ohio University Bobcats!
The Bobcat Marching Band has been invited to participate in the Ohio University Band Day
in Athens, Ohio on Saturday, September 7, 2002. This is a great opportunity for us to
visit the OU campus, participate in a massed band activity, and provide a quality experience
for our kids!
Because of the distance and the time frame involved, we are not using yellow school buses
for this trip. (Last year, we were unable to participate in a fall marching band special
event because there was no such chartered bus service available.)
We have chartered four 55-passenger buses at a cost of $1200 per bus. This expense was not
covered in our budget and will require additional fundraising efforts.
The timetable has not been set at this time, but the plan is to depart BG around 9:00 am
Saturday morning and return at around 1:30 am Sunday morning. By using the chartered
buses, everyone should be able to travel comfortably and maybe even catch some sleep on
the bus trip home. (Yeah, right!)
More information on this will be coming as it is available.

Kroger & Meijer Certificates
For those of you who shop at either Kroger or Meijer on a regular basis, why not do it
with a gift certificate? This helps out the band and doesn’t cost you anything extra.
Here’s how it works: You purchase one or more gift certificates for $25 each, and spend
them at Kroger or Meijer just like regular money. You’re not out anything and the band
earns 5% off of each certificate sold. Everybody wins.
Certificates are available outside the band room after each home football game and at the
Deutschman residence, 911 N. Wintergarden Rd, at the following schedule:
| Saturdays | | 10:00-11:00 am |
| Tuesdays | | 6:30-7:30 pm |
This is an easy fundraiser. All it takes is a little advance planning to buy the
certificates before you shop. So start now and get a supply on hand.
(This is a great way to help pay for the chartered buses.)
Uniforms
Many thanks to Judy Vandenbroek, chair of the uniform committee and all her dedicated
volunteers! This is a tremendous job, requiring lots of “parent time"; we so appreciate
the contribution of all involved. As soon as the weather permits, we'll be seeing the
Bobcat Marching Band in all their uniformed glory!
Thanks also to all the families who were quick to respond with the uniform maintenance fee.
As you may be aware, the fee does help cover cleaning costs- and much more! Additions to the
inventory, replacement of worn parts, special order sizes, annual waterproofing of the raincoats,
additional gentlemen's red concert coats, all of these are offset by the annual fee. Each
student is issued $500-600 in uniform equipment each year, much of which was purchased through
the collective efforts of the Band Booster families.
Band Store
We are open for business, under the watchful eye of David Leeds, Bobcat Band Treasurer. We
currently are considering new and better ideas for running a more efficient store, particularly
in the area of repayment of student charges. We really urge the students to pay at time of
purchase, or as soon as possible thereafter. A FEW students still owe from 2001-2002- if that's
you, please help us! Offering the band store service is for the students' convenience, but we
aren't equipped or staffed to be a department store!
Chris Cakes
Thank you to everyone who came to the Chris Cakes Pancake Breakfasts to eat and/or volunteer
your time. It was a success!
Health Forms
We certainly appreciate the efficient return of the orange medical forms - this helps us to
safeguard your students! During the course of this school year, if your student's health
situation seriously should change, please notify Mrs. Hann with an update. Also, if your
student regularly is on a prescription, we do need that information. We truly hope never to
need the forms, but they must be accurate to help the student, especially if he/she is in a
situation in which they cannot speak for themselves. Please be assured only the band directors
have access to this file; confidential information is just that!
Volunteer Cards
We've had a super response to the request for parent/family volunteers this year! And yes,
you may still send them in! We can always use ready "hands". In the fall, we particularly can
use Concession Stand and Chaperone folks.
We Need Your Help
We currently need volunteers to work in the concession stands and chaperones for away games.
Any and all interested parents should contact Terri Blackford at 419-669-3812.
