Band Store
Students need to settle their Band Store accounts by May 17. After that time, the store
will still be open; however, on a cash only basis until next fall. There are students
still carrying balances. We can accept cash or checks, made payable to BGHS Band Boosters.
Grades, diplomas and transcripts will be held in the main office for students who owe money.
Good Luck
Our student teachers this semester have done a tremendous job! Both will graduate in early
May, Miss Roof from UT and Miss Webb from BGSU. Both are actively interviewing for jobs and
attending seminars while teaching elementary and high school students every day. We wish them
success!!

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures
Yearbook Photos Needed
Please send your duplicate pictures to Melanie Mattingly as soon as possible. We are
working on the yearbook for this year and need your pictures to make it a success!
Remember that any pictures sent to me cannot be returned, so send me your duplicates
with Symphonic, Concert, or Freshmen band labeled on the back. We cannot use digital
pictures, they are too blurry to reproduce.
Please turn them in to me the night of the Band Banquet, May 23, or you can drop
pictures off at my house: 605 Flanders. The last day to turn in pictures will be May 31.
We can then include contest rehearsals, Band Banquet, May Fair Pops Concert, and Memorial
Day pictures. So, pull out those cameras and get ready to take some pictures! Please
call me with any questions at 352-0454. Thank you for your participation.

Slide Show Photos Needed
Photographs from the 2001-2002 band year are needed for the slide show presentation at
the Band Banquet. Please contact Peggy McClanahan at 354-3451 to make arrangements.
These photos will be returned to you. They are needed by May 1.
Senior Parents
A reminder to all senior band member parents to get pictures to Cindy Brechmacher ASAP.
She can be reached at 352-6687.
Band Banquet Help Needed
Anyone available to help set up the gym at 2:30 pm for the Banquet on May 23, please
contact Sandy Stoots at 686-7111. The more help, the quicker the work will be done.
Thank you!
Friends and Family Band
The Concert Band will host our first ever “Friends and Family Band” to perform at the
May Fair Pops Concert. We are looking for “post-high school age” former band members,
including parents, relatives, alums, and community members who are able to attend 1-2
rehearsals and perform with us on Tuesday, May 14. Please see the flyer included with
this mailing for additional information, then contact Mrs. Hann to register, 354-0100,
ext 332. The more the merrier!
Summer Study
Every year we encourage students and their parents to consider private study on their
instruments, during the school year, or the summer or both! The next newsletter will
contain a list of teachers available. For those currently taking lessons, if your
teacher has openings in his/her studio, let us know. Also, many summer camps still
are taking applications. BGSU has several specialty camps, including sax and clarinet camps.
Mrs. Hann is returning for her 10th year at the Wooster Music Camp! At that facility,
there are two string orchestras and five concert bands of varying ability levels (beginning
to advanced high school). Whatever the level, all of our students can benefit from a
little summer “inspiration”!

SENIOR SALUTE
It is always fitting that we pay tribute to our Senior Band Members. Soon to graduate
from Bowling Green High School and to seek out a world truly of their own making, these
young men and women have made an extraordinary commitment to their school and community.
They have persevered, challenged themselves to exceed their own expectations, and grown
from "rookie" members into veteran leaders, earning the respect of their younger peers
and their band directors.
None of us could have anticipated the way the senior year would begin for the Class of
2002. Despite the best efforts of parents and teachers to protect our young from the
realities of the world, this senior class became witness to humanity at its worst. This
senior class must have had even more questions than usual about their future....
Still, with all the memories of shattered buildings, aircraft missiles, and lives lost,
my fervent hope is that our young adults will have found some manner of hope through
our collective quest to make music; that they will more fully embrace the beauty that
surrounds each of us; and will continue to value, at even deeper levels, that which exalts
our common human spirit.
Seniors, my vision for your future includes unfathomable accomplishments, friends and
family to hold dear, and lives well-lived.
Yours is an extraordinary class. It's been an extraordinary year.
We thank you, sincerely.

Class of 2002
Certainly your families are very much occupied with graduation / employment / college / career
plans! In most 2-4 year schools, there will be opportunities to continue your band membership.
Don’t leave your instrument at home! As you attend summer registration activities, be sure
to ask what options you have to “stay musical”! Most schools DO NOT require band members to
be music majors, especially in the smaller schools. Check out the display board in the
front hall nearest the High School gyms – Bobcat Alums are all over the area in college
band programs!
